When it comes to preparing for a long road trip I always like to find simple ways to keep my kids busy in the car and help pass the time. This road trip activity definitely fits the bill for simple because all you have to do is print it out. And all the mamas said amen! Plus as an added bonus it’s really small and easy to pack. Double win.
One of my favorite parts about this activity (aside from the adorable illustrations and bright happy colors) is that it encourages your kids to look out the window and observe what is around them.
I recommend printing the scavenger hunt on heavy cardstock and then laminating it for added durability. Also, laminating it makes it really easy to wipe clean and use again on future trips.
When you are ready to play, the rules are really straightforward. Invite your kids to play and then see how many of these items you can spot along your route. You can do this activity together as a family, or add some friendly competition to your road trip and whoever finds them all first wins.
If you choose to laminate the scavenger hunt a dry erase marker works really well to mark what you’ve found and then you can easily erase it for next time. I’ll let you make the call on that, because you know your kids. If the thought of giving your kids markers in the back of your car sends you into a stressed out panic then please don’t do it. Your kids can also just point to the items that they have found. That works just as well!
